The ORIGINAL Bible: as preserved in the Septuagint Many people don't realize it, but modern bibles such as the King James, the Vulgate, and everything since are NOT the bible that Jesus and his disciples used. Approximately 100 years after the time of Jesus, Jewish rabbis revised the bible, and that has come down to us today. Translators such as St. Jerome, Martin Luther, et al, did not realize that the Hebrew manuscripts they relied on had been revised extensively after the time of Christ. It is only in the last few centuries that scholarship has made us aware that Jesus used an earlier version of the bible, which has been preserved in the Greek Septuagint. In 1954 The Falcon's Wing Press, of Indian Hills Colorado, issued an updated version of the Septuagint that was edited and revised by C. A. Muses. In his introduction, Dr. Muses makes the following points (among many others): "By the end of the first century of the Christian Era ... the official Hebrew biblical text had already become considerably alteres from what it was ... preceding the Christian Era. "At some time between the age of LXX [the Septuagint] and that of Aquila [ca 125 AD] a thorough revision of the Hebrew Bible must have taken place, probably under official direction... "It is established by abundant and widely scattered evidence that the Septuagint text of the Bible was the one in use in the days of Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples...." This series of files contains images of the Septuagint bible taken from the parallel English/Greek text published by Zondervan (this is not the text revised by Dr. Muses).
